'Fetal Position'

House M.D. this week was truly an amazing episode. It made me cry. The most powerful moment being the baby being operated on in his mom's uterus, reaching out to grasp House's finger.

If you didn't see it, there's an article and a vid link here.

I just noticed that Gilmore Girls is 62 minutes long tonight. So record accordingly! I was one of those who missed the end of last season's ender because I didn't know it ran long.

'Euphoria'

Excellent first part. Looking forward to tonight's installment.

* Foreman stabbing Cam with the needle -- that bastard! He's never been a favourite of mine, but even I didn't think he would do something like that.

* Cameron just in general I thought was great last night.

* The Wilson and House conversation.

* When House stops Cam in the hall with his cane, the look on his face... [melt]

* House shooting the corpse and the resulting blowing up the MRI scene.

As much as I disliked last week's eppy of House M.D., I loved this one. Really need to watch it again tomorrow.

Just Wilson alone made this episode worth it.

Sadly, No

Also via Maureen Ryan (hey, she's where it's at):

When Hugh Laurie won a Golden Globe for his role on ďHouse,Ē he mentioned that his friend and frequent acting partner Stephen Fry was in the audience at the Globes. I asked a ďHouseĒ rep if that meant that the delightful Fry might be guesting on the medical drama sometime soon (he has offered to play ďa man with two limpsĒ), but the answer, sadly, was no.

'Failure to Communicate'

One new 'House', and a brilliant one at that, and then nothing till February!! [heavy sigh]

Goodness knows, Stacy has not been a favourite of mine, no matter how much I like Sela Ward, but the last few eps she's done have connected with me. Tonight, I really felt a bit of what they must have had before the infarction. And House is different around her -- he's Greg, not House. I like getting to see the man under the 'jerk', if you get what I mean :)

There was so much I liked about this episode. Not sure if I can put my finger on it exactly. I think part of it was separating House from the Ducklings. We know he's brilliant, but tonight really brought that home for me. And him not being there gave a different look at the Ducklings too. And Wilson [sigh] I love him to death, but he's just a walking disaster when it comes to fidelity. I liked his line, "I didn't think the kids called you." [g] Oh, and House with his line about Cameron, that "their little girl was growing up" [snicker]

BTW, my House M.D. list is a year old tomorrow! and, there's actually some fic finally being posted on Histories. so if you've been looking for House fanfic, check it out!

Deception

I mentioned last night to Nin that I had thought Wilson had had something to do with Cuddy's change of heart concerning Foreman taking over. I was just talking to my coworker who is a recent convert to the show, and he said he, and a friend of his who also watches, thought the same thing. I wonder if we're totally out in left field, or if something will be revealed in the next new episode?

We all also found it interesting that House was much nicer -- for him -- to the patient than he usually was.

Cameron was House Junoir last night! She's been paying attention!

A bit later: Cap's take. Which reminds me: the motorcycle ride! Get on the damn bike, Cameron!! I think her smile after proved she finally 'got' it :)

Spin: The Next Morning

So many good things about last night's ep of House. But overall, a feeling that Greg is heading towards a major crash and burn. The other standout for me was Wilson. We got to see more of what makes him tick, and his developing friendship with Cameron. He needed a friend last night, and it seems friendship with House these days is a one way street.

Everyone Lies... To Their Parents

At least, that seems to be the premise of tonight's ep of House:

Everybody wants to know what makes Dr. Gregory House (Hugh Laurie) so cranky. Clues to the medical sleuth's permanent malcontent status emerge on tonight's "House" when we get to meet his mom and dad.

This solid episode explores the games of deception and avoidance many adult children play with their parents. A great throwaway line from Dr. Cuddy (Lisa Edelstein) reveals the show's running theme. When asked if she lies to her mother, she flippantly replies, "Ever since I was 12."

Kathy Gives Me The Best (Evil) Ideas

Since I'm apparently really Hugh Laurie, or at least a pipeline to the man himself, I should utilize my power for selfish personal enrichment! So all you fans who keep leaving him fan mail on my blog, listen up! It costs money to run a blog, so if you don't want your contact (that would be me) to lose contact with the internet, you should all go and make a donation via my tip jar! You really should. At the very least, you should buy me pressies from my wish list. After all, a girl does not live by bandwidth alone! And my birthday is fast approaching. So if you really love Hugh, and me of course, hop to it!

(And in case it needs to be said, the above posted is firmly tongue in cheek) (The part about me being Hugh Laurie, that is and/or having a pipeline) (Not about giving me pressies!) (I never joke about pressies)

(Just to reiterate: I AM NOT HUGH LAURIE, nor do I play him on TV, know him, met him, or even sent him a fan letter)

ícause two out of three ainít bad

If I were writing House fic (and I'm not! the plot bunnies haven't totally overwhelmed me yet) and it was song fic, this is the song I'd be using:

Baby we can talk all night But that ainít getting us nowhere I told you everything I possibly can Thereís nothing left inside of here And maybe you can cry all night But thatíll never change the way that I feel The snow is really piling up outside I wish you wouldnít make me leave here

I poured it on and I poured it out
I tried to show you just how much I care
Iím tired of words and Iím too hoarse to shout
But youíve been cold to me so long
Iím crying icicles instead of tears

And all I can do is keep on telling you
I want you
I need you
But -- there ainít no way Iím ever gonna love you
Now donít be sad
ícause two out of three ainít bad
Now donít be sad
ícause two out of three ainít bad

Youíll never find your gold on a sandy beach
Youíll never drill for oil on a city street
I know youíre looking for a ruby in a mountain of rocks
But there ainít no coupe de ville hiding at the bottom of a cracker jack box

I canít lie
I canít tell you that Iím something Iím not
No matter how I try
Iíll never be able
To give you something
Something that I just havenít got

Thereís only one girl that I will ever love
And that was so many years ago
And though I know Iíll never get her out of my heart
She never loved me back
Ooh I know
I remember how she left me on a stormy night
She kissed me and got out of our bed
And though I pleaded and I begged her not to walk out that door
She packed her bags and turned right away

And she kept on telling me
She kept on telling me
She kept on telling me
I want you
I need you
But there ainít no way Iím ever gonna love you
Now donít be sad
ícause two out of three ainít bad
I want you
I need you
But there ainít no way Iím ever gonna love you
Now donít be sad
ícause two out of three ainít bad
Donít be sad
ícause two out of three ainít bad

Baby we can talk all night
But that ainít getting us nowhere

TV Tonight

So I have to do without House till August now. I'm not sure I like Stacy. I think it was incredibly selfish of her to confess to him that he's the love of her life -- even though she has no intention of being with him. Hasn't she done enough damage? Next season should be quite interesting!

American Idol. I'm torn. I've been a big fan of Carrie's from the beginning, and it would be nice to see a country singer win. Though, she doesn't have Martina McBride's voice and I think she should avoid singing her songs. But I wouldn't be unhappy if Bo wins. Either way, both of them are coming out of this with recording contracts.

Now we're watching the last hour of "Amber and Rob Get Married". No, I don't know why! :)

House!

I'm not sure what "House" show that bloody blind pirate watches, but there aren't any chain saws in Princeton Plainsboro hospital!

First off, Yays to the Executive board who finally got their ethics and priorities straight and got rid of Vogler and his $$. I guess when he kept trying to fire people, they all realized they could be next..... Not to mention that stopping the initial C-section, which resulted in the mother's death later, opened him up to a huge lawsuit....

A pretty good episode, IMO, but I missed Cameron. Here's hoping she'll return now that Vogler is gone.....

On a medical note, small-cell cancers of the lung are among the least treatable. In these days where the "Big C" is no longer a death sentence for most, these cancers are the least treatable. They're usually beyond surgical hope by the time they're discovered (as was the case with House's patient), so radiation is the usual course of action. VEGF inhibitors, such as the experimental drug in last night's trial do show some promise, since they starve the tumors to death, but they don't work for everyone.

The other case last night, however was bogus. You don't usually diagnose DiGeorge syndrome from malnutrition and pneumonia. DiGeorge syndrome is a congential disorder that arises from cell signaling deficiencies in certain parts of the developing fetus. DiGeorge babies have small lungs and an undeveloped or underdeveloped thymus (the gland where T-cells are produced). There may also be heart defects and facial abnormalities, as well as brain damage. The severity depends on the extent of the genetic abnormality underlying the syndrome.

Most DiGeorge cases are caught because of the facial abnormalities, but others are diagnosed after a series of abcesses and infections that a normal baby/child should be able to fight off easily. Hence, House prescribed Immunoglobulin for the baby.

DiGeorge results from a deletion in the long arm of chromosome 22, at a region known as 22q11. 22q11 deficiencies are also correlated with VCFS, which is similar to DiGeorge syndrome, but more severe, and Schizophrenia (which is why I know a little about it). VCFS/DiGeorge patients are 4-40 (depending on the study) times more likely to become psychotic than normal patients over their lifetimes, indicating that the development of the brain is important in understanding schizophrenia. A lot of work is being directed at this area of the genome in order to understand just how these disease come about.

Too much info, I know, but I find it fascinating that one little tiny part of the chromosome is responsible for building your forebrain, face, heart, and lungs. Pretty cool. It's a miracle that almost all of us come out perfect!

Next week is a rerun, so we will get to see Cameron again. Yay!

On The "House" Subject

My post earlier about Sela Ward reminded me of the spoilers I posted last week. Further thoughts and spoilers in the extended post.

Stacy is now married to someone else, but when she first shows up, House doesn't know this. Stacy shows him a medical file that she wants his opinion on, and when he asks whose it is, she tells him it's her husband's -- very much to his surprise.

Posted by Ithildin at 10:55 AM

Ward To "House"

Sela Ward will be joining the cast of House, for an indeterminate number of episodes, as the mysterious Stacey, House's ex.

UNDER HOUSE ARREST: Somebody page Dr. Grumpy ó Sela Ward is in the House. Well, she will be come May when the Once and Again beauty begins a potentially long-term arc as a former flame of Hugh Laurie's irascible doc. "This is somebody he lived with, somebody he loved and somebody he still has feelings for," series creator David Shore tells TVGuide.com, adding that Ward's arrival will shed some light on why Dr. House is such a pill. "We get to know his backstory, [including] what happened to his leg." Let me guess: He's got that pesky Kerry Weaver gene.

I love Sela Ward!

* We meet Stacy both now and through flashbacks

* We find out all about House's leg through flashbacks when he's teaching a

Go, Cameron! Part II

This was supposed to be a comment in response to comments left on my House post from last night, but it got so long, I'm making it a post!

Kathy, this is why I relate to Cameron. I'm quiet and people assume, passive. I worked for a big hotel before my current job, and I ran the A/P department -- I was a department of one -- where I was efficient, always had my work done in half the time, and would help out other people when I was twiddling my thumbs. Well, they decided to try and get me to take the A/R clerks job because the credit manager was an incompetent idiot, but they didn't want to fire her (for reasons too complicated to get into here). The plan was that I would carry her, basically doing her job and mine without the pay and title. It never, ever occurred to them I'd say no. I was nice, and quiet, and agreeable, and I always did what I was told. The expression on their faces when I turned them down was priceless! The Assistant Controller even took me out of the office for "a walk" to try and wheedle me into taking the job. Then the controller tried. I dug in my heels and astounded everyone. I was quite proud of myself. I may be quiet, I may be nice, but I'm not a pushover. When Cameron chewed out House, he had a similar look to my boss when I stated categorically I wouldn't take the job. Another amusing similarity -- the paymaster was a bitch and a backstabber. I didn't trust her at all, but the auditor, a friend if mine did. The paymaster ratted her out to our bosses during the course of the whole thing. Except it didn't have the desired affect -- getting me fired -- it blew up in her face because it became public knowledge she was untrustworthy.

CTG, Deb, I so related to that girl. I was terrorized from 7th grade on till I quit school in 10th grade. There's always somebody that's the target, no matter if they're fat, thin, or in between -- I was the chosen one. School was literally hell for me, and I wouldn't want to relive those years for anything.

Jay, since the original number of episodes was 15, last week's, where he was told he'd have to fire someone would have been the season ender, if my figuring is right. Then they ordered three more episodes, for a total of 18, so that would last night's and the next two. Then FOX ordered a full 22. It will be interesting to see if we end up with three "ends".

Go, Cameron!

[waves to Kathy] And what can I say about Chase? Here I was willing to at least give him the benefit of the doubt, but he's even more of a weasel than I thought he was.

Repeat next week. Bleah.

"Mob Rules", the Wed. "House" Post

So, Cameron and House. I have to say I like the idea better than House and Cuddy, which seemed where they were heading in the beginning of the series. I'm kind of surprised Cameron told Chase about it though. Of course, we don't know if she has a lot of friends outside her work, so maybe he was the only person she could really talk to about it. But she had to know he'd probably be dismissive of her feelings. Him telling Foreman was pretty crappy, IMHO.

As far as it goes, I think Cameron and House could work, if that is indeed where this is all heading. It would certainly be interesting to say the least. I like the idea of going against the stereotype that most shows use -- in this case it would be Cuddy since they seem to fight all the time. As a "nice", quiet girl myself, I'd like to see Alison get the guy! Just for once, it would be welcome occurrence. Of course, this could all be moot if she's the one House fires. Hmmmm... That actually has possibilities. She wouldn't work for him anymore, and some other post in the hospital could open up...

The next few episodes will be interesting!

"Control"

Last night's House may have been one of the best yet. Over time, it's become more and more layered, with every new episode adding a new dimension to the show as a whole. Several things weren't resolved by the end of the episode, -- Chase's seeming perfidy for one -- and I'm looking forward to how it all plays out.

Season Two!

Yippeee!! FOX just ordered a second season of "House"!

The network has given a second-season pickup to the medical drama starring British actor Hugh Laurie as a pill-popping maverick who often alienates patients and colleagues with his acerbic tone and antisocial behavior.

Since its premiere in November, "House" has showed steady ratings growth, accelerated by the arrival of "American Idol" in January as its lead-in. This week, the series drew 15.6 million viewers, its largest audience to date.

OWHP

(Obligatory Wednesday House Post) (Or, it's all about the "H". Cue overly tanned woman dressed in white, talking about the joys of House) (Does anyone else hate those Overstock.com adverts like I do?)

I'm number two on Google for "House M.D.". I've been getting lots of referrers for that search, so I guess that's why!

Okay, last night's ep, "Sports Medicine" :

Some more personal life tidbits revealed -- "Stacey".

The monster truck thing was a hoot. -- "race you to the parking lot" & the cotton candy.

We hardly ever see them away from the hospital (except
when they're snooping) and in this ep, we see apartments, bars, and
restaurants.

Boy, House was hurt when he found out Wilson had lied -- not
that he'd ever admit it!

"Detox"

TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE: "House," 9 p.m., Fox.

By Mike Hughes
Lansing State Journal

Colleagues have looked the other way as Dr. Gregory House (Hugh Laurie) gobbled pain-killers.

Now comes an attempt to stop him. It comes as House gropes with the near- impossible case of a teen who is bleeding to death.

Always a tough and irritable soul, House is now crumbling completely. It's another brilliant performance by Laurie, who was known in England for comedy, not drama.

It's also a reminder that great drama has curves and detours. There are bursts of humor and surprises, as the others react to their wobbly leader.

Another good article here: Master of 'House'.

House Cast Sighting

I just saw Jesse Spencer on Fox News. It's almost always on on the weekends and I'm sort of a 1/4 listening and the rest playing on the computer. Eventually, my brain kicked in and I realized I recognized the voice! He was there to publicize his new movie "Swimming Upstream". They talked a bit about his movie -- it's about a famous Australian swimmer, and then the anchor brought up "House" and how popular it's becoming. He said if he hadn't become an actor, he would have been a doctor since he comes from a medical family. Then he talked a bit about his character and some of what's coming up for him in future eps. The anchor then mentioned it was his 26th birthday today, and wished him a happy one.

Not that he's unattractive on the show or anything, but he was quite fetching today. He had more of a scruffy outdoorsy look going. He was also quite personable -- great accent. and he was much more relaxed than his persona on House.

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Fox has ordered an additional four episodes of its fledgling medical drama "House," bringing the total number of episodes ordered to 22, a full season's worth.

Fox said it hoped to have fresh episodes of the show to air in April. Hugh Laurie ("Flight of the Phoenix") plays the title character, a pill-popping doctor who hates his patients

"House," which debuted in November, hit its highest ratings yet on Tuesday with the benefit of an "American Idol" lead-in.

She Asked!

CTG was asking about my thoughts on last night's "House". I'd been discussing it on my House list, and forgot to post here. So without further ado...

This one made me cry. My list of things that stood out:

So House isn't a hermit. We've had clues as far as him knowing Wilson's wife, but now we know he's met his parents and knew about one of his brothers.

He's nosy and annoying, but he cares. Him with their files was classic House. "Twerp with a limp" [g]

What was going on under the surface between Wilson and Foreman was just as fascinating to him as the patient.

I forgave Foreman for being a jerk by the end.

Rabies! I guessed just prior that that's what it was.

Far be it for me to expect a medical show to be accurate, but I could have sworn that the shots in the stomach weren't necessary anymore.

Watching the OC [snicker]

The medical students!! A nice little addition to the usual clinic comic relief. "Get me a box of thin mints."

More as I think of it (or not)

Tuesday TV

American Idol: Lord!! I know the bad stuff is what gets the ratings, but a little more of the good stuff, please? And what is up with Paula? She seems more than just a little, ah, pie eyed.

House: Ahhh... he was in fine form tonight, no? This show just gets better and better.

Now to watch Gilmore Girls on tape.

Now I'm Going To Have To Go See It

Apparently, Hugh Laurie is going to be in the next Superman movie.

Director Bryan Singer is going with some familiar faces in his Superman movie.

James Marsden, who played Cyclops in Singer's two "X-Men" movies,
and Hugh Laurie, who stars in Singer's Fox medical drama "House,"
are joining the cast of the Warner Bros. film.

Marsden, last in theaters with "The Notebook," will play Lois Lane's
love interest, Richard White. Laurie is in final negotiations to
play Perry White, editor in chief of the Daily Planet. The two
characters are related, though the studio declined to say if they
were father and son.

(and speaking of Hugh, dont forget my "House" email list)

And I Did

I did watch "House" last night, and I have to say I really enjoyed it! Still not to sure on Hugh Laurie and the American accent though. I found that aspect jarring, especially since they let the other doctor keep his accent!

A show with potential, a little different than your usual CSI/Medical style show, and since I like it, I'm sure it will be canceled post haste!

Now I Have To Watch

I was perusing my Yahoo TV Listings for tonight, and I see a show on FOX called, "House". Curious, I clicked on the link to find that it stars Hugh Laurie of all people! I love Hugh Laurie! "Jeeves & Wooster", "A Bit of Frye and Laurie", "Blackadder". How odd he's starring in an American series. Huh.
