why the heck are they in black and white? Is there an actual reason we can't transmit colour photos from the Mars Phoenix Lander? I assumed with a new, higher tech lander, we'd also get colour photos, but instead, they're the same old B&W. Anyone know why? The only colour image I've seen says it was colourized after the fact.

And what about that face on mars they have been telling us its nothing but a ground mistake but what is it realy mean?

It's likely a question of bandwidth - black and white images can be transmitted a lot quicker, so they probably got the quickest images they could out in front of the public right away, with better images to follow.
This is rank speculation, of course.
