I Love This Sort Of Thing

A diaelct survey with maps and such.

I absolutly love this sort of thing. One of the things about LOTR that was such a draw, was all the extra stuff about language. When I was about 17, a friend took me to her linguistics college class, and I loved it. Yes, I'm a geek :)

This is so cool. It is interesting to see how the isoglosses have smudged as people have moved around. I once knew a Professor who used to be able to identify the place of a person's birth by asking the same sort of questions. Sadly, for the linguists, we are no longer quite so regional.

It is cute that Bert Vaux, who came up with this study, refers to Lampyridae insects as peenie wallie.
