It really is bloody annoying that the majority of the well written adult themed fanfic out there is slash. If anyone has some hidden cache of het fanfic out there, let me know. Yeah, I know, it's just the way it is these days, but I'm allowed a grrr or two every now and then :)

P.S. Mine is not what you'd call adult-themed... so take that into consideration when you decide whether or not you want to read it. :)
Posted by: CrankyBeach at March 21, 2006 7:08 AMYeah, but the slash is written and consumed by het women remember.
As for the ST fic, thanks, but not quite what i'm looking for :) I do appreciate the offer though!
Posted by: Ith at March 21, 2006 9:56 AM"Slash"?
Posted by: Russ at March 21, 2006 11:39 AMThis is the really simplified explanation :)
Slash is fanfic that takes say, Methos and Duncan from Highlander and put them in a sexual relationship. It's the predominate fanfiction these days, especially in the PG13 and up ratings. It's written predominantly by women for women. I have a friend who won't read het fic at all, only slash. Nin is a big slash fan, so she may be better at explaining the attraction! Slash however, doesn't do a thing for me, so I'm always trying to find fic in fandoms I read that's not slash. Last night, I was looking for Methos fic and only finding het stuff I'd read before and anything new was slash. So unless I write it myself....
The term dates back to Classic Trek when zines started publishing Kirk/Spock fic, so the / became the name of the genre.
The House fanfic list I have is het only, because House has a big slash presence elsewhere, the pairing of House/Wilson being extremely popular. I figured us non slashers should have a place too :)
That help?
Posted by: Ith at March 21, 2006 11:55 AMI think you gave a good explanation, Ith. Oh, a bit more... If the relationship is canon to the show, it's not slash. Slash is all in the fans heads. Subtext and all that. And, slash can be male/male *or* female/female. But, male/male is heavily predominant.
Of course, Ith has great fun coming up with icky slash pairing just to see me and others make the "Ewww!" face.
No idea why I like it, I just do. But, I like het too.
And, sorry, the only het I can find at the moment is stuff you've already read or in a fandom you don't feel like reading lately.
Posted by: Ninjababe at March 21, 2006 1:57 PMMine is anti-slash - much of Crowe's Point is HetFic - the whole objective of the fandom there is to keep things "in situ" - if the character didnt start out a certain way, he shouldnt be made to be a certain way. One of the reasons why I got involved in that fanfic.
Plus there are some VERY good writers there....
Ith - will give you feedback on your latest within 24 hours - sorry it has taken me so long - have only just today found some time to myself!
Posted by: Sharon Ferguson at March 21, 2006 4:15 PMSharon, no worries :)
As for my quest, I may just have to start writing that sort of fic again so I have something to read -- as odd as that sounds :)
Posted by: Ith at March 21, 2006 7:23 PMUm.... ick.
I'll stick to the non-"slash" stuff, then, if it's all the same to y'all.
Posted by: Russ at March 23, 2006 12:59 AMRuss, I agree :)
Posted by: Ith at March 23, 2006 10:40 AMWhy do they always use sewer talk when these idiots are cracking jokes?
Posted by: BIRDZILLA at March 24, 2006 7:59 AMI can steer you to a couple of good sites, if you're interested in JAG or X-Files (specifically Skinner) fanfic. Shoot me an email if you're interested.

I hear ya. No slash for this flaming hetero!
I have some ST fanfic that's going on 20 years old now. Original series, of course. If you're interested I can dig up copies for you. They're around here somewhere. :)
