I've got about twenty pages of fic written so far. I've been on a real writing jag or something. But, I hadn't failed to notice that I'm blogging a lot less. Since I always wondered if my beginning blogging lead in part to my lack of fiction writing, I have to think the two are indeed related.
Later: I finally found the power cable for my external drive a few nights back, which had all my old fic files on it, including what turned out to be well over a dozen unfinished stories. I'd forgotten how much I used to write before blogging. Thinking back, I guess I did scribble at something for a few hours most every night. Then there were the nights on IRC where I would write and paste to entertain the channel. We used to take turns. That's actually when I wrote my first story and was convinced to post it on the various fanfic lists. It was the great POST IT! campaign of 1997.
Time sure flies.

The relations are twofold:
1. Caltechgirl has pinned one: time spent doing activity A is time unavailable for activity B, except in a few very unusual cases.
2. The mindset required to write non-fiction is antagonistic to the mindset required to write good imaginative fiction.
I suffer from the same syndrome...usually resolved in favor of blogging, but I'm working on it.
Posted by: Francis W. Porretto at December 14, 2005 2:04 PMI have a similar problem. But with me it is my "job" eating up most of my time. But i didn't know you wrote fiction. Is there some available for public consumption?

Francis, I've often believed 2 might be true, but nice to get some confirmation on that!
Ursus, it's just fanfiction. Unless you're a Highlander or Forever Knight fan, it probably wouldn't be of much interest :)
Posted by: Ith at December 14, 2005 2:58 PMUmmm, actually we discussed this before. I happen to be a major FK fan. In fact if you let me read some of your fanfic, I'll let you read the background story for a vampire I want to write a book about someday. if you're interested that is.
I don't write fanfic myself. I am never comfortable using other people's characters except as background to establish the setting.
Posted by: Ursus Trollkin at December 15, 2005 10:17 AMIn that case, all my fic is here in "Tales from the Darkwood". And the link is always over on the blog sidebar if you misplace it.
Posted by: Ith at December 15, 2005 10:47 AMHey cool, I'll go check it out. In the meantime, this is the background narrative I was talking about. http://www.geocities.com/ursus_trollkin/Matthew.html
It is a bit sketchy for the most part. I originally wrote it for a character for a Mind's Eye Theatre game, but have since decided I want to flesh it out into a novel length story. Well, flesh it out and continue the tale from where it ends. Of course since the character was based in White Wolf's World of Darkness if I ever want to publish it, I'll either have to get their permission, or remove any references to their intellectual property. Probably the latter. It will allow me to get really creative.
there's only so many hours in the day, my dear.
