If Only

Yesterday, I posted a bit from an article on the Canadian guy wanting public hearings on dealing with "ET". Something I meant to mention, but didn't get around to was this bit:

He stated, "The Bush administration has finally agreed to let the military build a forward base on the moon, which will put them in a better position to keep track of the goings and comings of the visitors from space, and to shoot at them, if they so decide."

My reaction? About darn time, and if only it were true! I want my moon base, and I want it now. Oh, and the flying car too. When I was a little girl, I was sure we'd have a presence on the moon by this time. It's been something of a disappointment :)

Does anyone remember UFO? It was a truly bad British SciFi show about secret UFO defenses. Moon Base Alpha was one facility.

Some how this reminds me of that.

Yes, I remember that one. And "Space:1999". And of course, one of my favourite current series, "Stargate". That's something they actually deal with in SG1 too, is the US having the Stargate, then the Russians finding one, and then eventually, telling a handful of other countries about it. I'm looking forward to the planet at large being told about it. I often wonder what the reaction would be if we were told, that yeah, we're in contact with an alien race.

This is cannon from the producer of Space 1999. Sometime in the late 1980's the aliens stopped showing up. So the moon base which was built as the first line of defense against them was expanded into a scientific research station and tasked with running the nuclear waste disposal dumps located on the moon.

What's the matter with you, Ith? Don't you read the tabloids? The Weekly World News? We've had bases on the moon for decades! That's where they're experimenting on all the aliens they've caught trying to invade us! Don't you know ANYTHING? ::evil grin::
