Everyone down there affected by the wildfires, stay safe and I'll be keeping you all in my prayers.
I hate fire season. One of my most vivid childhood memories was the Oaklnad Hills fire when I was in second grade. It was horrible. I remember everything being this gray blue colour from all the smoke, and bringing toys to a classmate who had lost his home.
Mum called last night and said the ridge next to them is on fire. She says they're safe, but it's pretty bad.

My great-aunt and uncle's house burnt down in San Bernardino, one year. Yikes. Santa Ana wind season is scary...
CTG - it's comforting to know that not too much damage has occurred, so far.
Gad, Second Grade? I suddenly feel old.
I remember watching that fire from the Margaritaville veranda, across the bay in Sausalito. Couldn't get back to the East Bay where I lived, nothing to do but drink Long Island Iced teas and the occasional round of Margarita's and shots.
If it makes you feel better, it makes me feel old too :) the early 70s seem soooooo long ago.
Posted by: Ith at September 29, 2005 4:25 PMThis is one of the reasons that I'm glad I live in central NC. Aside from the odd tornado or the remnants of hurricanes that come up through the state from time to time, very little in the way of natural disasters every happen here.
And we have BBQ. Another good reason to live here.

1700 acres and only 3 buildings lost. A house, a separate garage (on the same property, I believe) and building at Rocketdyne.
Temps are still high, but the winds are flat. That really helped them save homes this morning. They're letting the fires burn through the canyons (which are uninhabited) and beating them back at the tops (where the houses are.
3000 FD on the job and only one injury, a fire captain got a concussion from a falling rock.
Coverage is on live at cbs2.com if anyone's interested
