I'm not holding my breath that the BM is going to start doing a better job. Yeah, it's easier to report a body count than the number of schools that are open...
WAIT A MINUTE? WHY is it 'easier'? Does the BM seriously expect us to believe that the military wouldn't be glad to furnish that kind of information? That the Iraqi authorities wouldn't happily schedule a visit to a school or hospital for any interested journalists?
And that whining about how hard it is to do reporting from the fifth floor of their hotel (along with the required crying about how some nasty ol' American tank killed two journalists there TWO YEARS AGO)... Yeah, parts of Iraq are dangerous, but I thought that the BM types were all 'fearless' in their pursuit of the news. reporters like Ernie Pyle used to go up to the front lines with the GIs and Marines they covered. Hmmm... Guess that's why he's a legend and the modern crop of journalists are viewed as a form of life on par with intestinal parasites.
Notice that the AP whines that they don't have as many embedded reporters. Anybody remember all the complaints from senior BM types back when the war started, that 'embedded' reporters were 'in bed' with the Pentagon?
Frankly, the article seems to me to have been nothing but one big excuse: "Yeah, we know that you think we could do better, but this is why we won't."
Grrrr....
