Disappointing, But Not At All Surprising

Justin at Calblog has a teriffic post up on one of my favourite topics, the Crusades. This one deals with the upcoming movie, "Kingdom of Heaven". I've been leery of this movie since I first learned of it -- even though Orlando Bloom was in it and I really wanted to see it -- but held out a dim hope that it might not be the whitewash I was expecting. Looks like I probably should have quashed that hope from the get go:

The fact that a sue-happy, terror-apologist group like CAIR actually put its seal of approval on the film should be quite damning. (Do you suppose that the filmmakers bothered to show Christian/Catholic leaders an advance screening of the film to get their input and seal of approval? Not likely. That should speak volumes about the cynical nature of this film.)

[sigh]

And the interent exclusive trailer was just awesome too. Oh well.

Just like the left to ruin another damned movie.

I really wanted to see that King Arthur movie with Clive Owens because of the way it was depicting the Arthurian legends through the probably correct lense of the Roman withdrawal from Britain. I actually bought the damn thing without watching it.

The first thing I learn is that the Roman Empire is dragooning Sarmatian warriors 2,000 miles to serve in Britain. As if that made any sense or that your average Sarmatian lad wouldn't have wanted to sign up with the winning team for pillage and plunder, which they could have done locally without travelling across a continent.

And then there was the unceasing anti-christian propoganda, where Christian/Catholic priests and laity were shown as cruel oppressors of the native population, when in fact, of course, the native population was Christian and had more than enough to fear from the pagan Germanic barbarian invaders who destroyed their entire civilization and dispossessed them to the "Celtic fringe" ferheavensake.

There, you just had to go and get me venting on bad history in the movies.
