One Season Wonder

He sure didn't last long.

LONDON (Reuters) - Actor Christopher Eccleston has quit his role as time-travelling hero Dr Who after just one episode of the new series was screened, the BBC says.

Eccleston, who took up the ninth reincarnation of the Timelord, feared being typecast.

He said he was planning new projects and that he found filming the 13-part series gruelling.

"The audience's response for the new Dr Who has been incredible and I am really proud to be part of it and I hope viewers continue to enjoy the series," Eccleston said in a statement on Thursday.

Talks to replace him with period drama "Casanova" star David Tennant for the second series were taking place, the BBC said.

Bring back Tom Baker!

Oh okay, I know that he's too fat and old. Still -- he'll always be Dr. Who to me.
