Hobbits

'Hobbit' is new species

BOFFINS have confirmed that a "hobbit" discovered on a remote Indonesian island is likely to be a new species of human.

Remains of the 3ft-tall creature were found in a cave on the island of Flores, along with stone tools and evidence of fire.

The female specimen found is thought to have lived 18,000 years ago and has a mixture of traits from the early human ancestor Homo erectus and the modern day human.
