After some gentle prodding from Jen, I've decided to do a "Gathering of the Blogs" for 2005. If you missed it last year, you can check out the final product here. This year, I'm starting a lot earlier -- a month compared to the week last year -- so I'm hoping I'll be a bit better organized this time! So, here's how it'll work:
First off, if you want to participate, subscribe yourself here(or, I can subscribe you directly. Leave your email address in the comments of this post) (Update 3.30.05:You DO NOT NEED a Yahoo account. The only thing I'm using this for is to organize all the participants in a way as to create less work and confusion than last time. If you email me directly I will subscribe you manually. It is set to announce only. You will get no more mail than if I emailed you directly. There has been some confusion on this, and I just wanted to clarify) Last year, the number of email addresses and URLs to track became a little bit unwieldy, so I'm getting a little help from Yahoo this time around. Just a note -- this isn't an email list for people to post to. So if you're worried about getting a ton of unwanted email, please don't. It's set to announce only. The only email you'll get will be from me with what you need come Tartan Day.
There will also be a blogrolling blog roll this time in addition to the hand coded roll of last time. A week before Tartan Day participants are encouraged (but not required) to start making Scottish related posts on their blogs, and put up the Tartan Day blog roll. On Tartan Day itself (April 6), all participants should have a Tartan Day/Scottish related post up, and I will send everyone the final list of participants for posting on their individual blogs.
We had a lot of fun last time, and I hope we will double the fun this year!
A few days later: your contribution on Tartan Day can be anything from a photo, a recipe, a bit about your Scots ancestry, or some Scottish activity or food you're fond of. It can even be a link to an article about Scottish history, travel, or culture. Basically anything that somehow has some Scottish content is cool. And if you do post your favourite Scottish recipe, don't forget the Carnival of the Recipes! Sort of killing two birds with one post :)
Later still: As an addition to the planned Tartan Day festivities, let's also have a fashion show of sorts. Friday, April 1st, I'm going to put up a photo post, and if you have a pic of yourself, or your friends, family, pets, in some sort of Scottish attire, post it on your blog and link back, or leave your URL in the comments. So you have plenty of time to dig up that photo of you in a kilt, or plaid of some sort, to put up on your blog.

on October 23, 2004 in response to James Webb' "The Scots-Irish Vote".
I'm 50% Scottish (my dad is 100% Scottish). I am very proud of my heritage; my family has, to my knowledge, no Tartan asociated with our name.
Greenlees (at least the northern Illinois folks) are descended from Campbelltown lowlanders.
My newly-arrived New World anscestors (circa 1830?) were seeking, let's say, a New World interpretation of the law. What's not to love!
Everyone, enjoy Tartan day!!
