Earthquake

Jusy had a fairly active earthquake roll through here. Almost headed outside as it got stronger and didn't stop for a while.

I'm still shaking, but the ground stopped.

No magnitude yet.

Update: it's a 6.0, near Parkfield.

Update 2: now it's being listed as a 5.0

Now: So it seems there were two quakes about three minutes apart: one was 5.9, the other 5.0.

(Parkfield is slightly NE of Paso Robles (about 20 miles away) and it's a very active earthquake zone. There are lots of earthquake monitoring stations there)

(132 miles SE of San Jose)

Here's the listing.

We felt it in Fresno. Seemed pretty strong, especially since I'm now in a ground floor office and it shook the diplomas.

Parkfield? That's on the road to Morro Bay, near where James Dean cashed it in, right? They've been expecting a big one over in that direction for years.

Glad to hear you're OK: with all the hurricanes here, one sometimes forgets that natural disasters happen in the rest of the country, too. ;-)

It's the seconds you aren't sure if this is the one that's going to bring the building down on you :) Since I work in a two story cinderblock warehouse, the building coming down on me would be a bad thing!

I went through Loma Prieta and [knock wood] I hope to never relive that experience!

eyow! Glad you are okay. There does seem to be a lot of disasters occurring in the USA lately (no that really isn't a message from G-d statement. Just point of fact and scary) Stay safe!

Yikes! We were there for that, too, living in San Jose. Oh, man...I've never felt ground so fluid, before. Glad to hear the building is where it's supposed to be and you're okay. :-)

Why can I not leave the entire comment all at once?? Anyway, we were there for the Loma Prieta quake, not the ones you just had.

Bah! That was barely a trebler.

I have been in two much bigger quakes, the 1971 San Fernando Quake, a 6.5; and the 2001 Nisqually Quake here in Washington, a 6.8!

In any case, glad you didn't get hurt. Did you have to change your undergarments?

Glad to hear you are all right. I'm not sure I've felt an earthquake before, but it sounds a mite disconcerting, to say the least!

Jami, yeah, Loma Prieta was horrible. The rest of my family was in the Bay Area that day and I had no idea if they were okay and all I had was AM radio reports of what was happening. During the quake itself I was pretty sure I might not make it. I was thrown out of bed it was shaking so hard. I was in a basement apt. that had a rock wall across one end, floor to ceiling. I was sure that sucker was going to collapse. Ever since then, quakes really freak me out.

Glad to hear everyone is ok. And I am also glad that all my friends in Florida area alright also.

Glad you are okay. Does this make you a Jane Bond? Shaken, not stirred?

I live within a 50 mile radius of Mt Shasta and then there talk that Mt St Helens is rumbling again whats happening? i dont know but i can remember that here in siskiyou county where i live we have had a few rather small earthquakes nothing to realy knock things off store shelves but you could just fell em a litle but thats been a number of years ago however the quakes did knock a few rock down off mountainsides onto roadways but the rocks were small ones maybe about softball sized so i have been in a quake but just a micro quake
