I Sit Beside The Fire...

I received an email this morning on the qoute over on the sidebar. Since I'm tickled somone liked it enough to email me (thanks, Patrick!) I thought I'd post the entire poem here today. I've always loved the sentiment in thse words of Tolkien's. There are dozens of quotes from the books that speak to me, but this one has always had a special place in my heart.

Enjoy!

I sit beside the fire and think Of all that I have seen, Of meadow-flowers and butterflies In summers that have been;

Of yellow leaves and gossamer
In autumns that there were,
With morning mist and silver sun
And wind upon my hair.

I sit beside the fire and think
Of how the world will be
When winter comes without a spring
That I shall ever see.

For still there are so many things
That I have never seen:
In every wood in every spring
There is a different green.

I sit beside the fire and think
Of people long ago,
And people who will see a world
That I shall never know.

And while I think
Of times that have come before,
I listen for returning feet
And voices at the door.

J.R.R. Tolkien

He does write so well! I read him twice; once when I was about 16 and when my children were reading him.

Beautiful. literate, stunning.

I just LOVE Tolkien. You'd be so proud... I don't know if you remember but I told you once that I had never read LotR (gasp!) but I finally started reading it about a month ago, and I read a little each night before bed. (whish I had more time to read since now I'm enthralled with it) Anyway, just wanted to say that is lovely. Oh... and a little shameless self-promotion hehe I've made some LotR music vids and fan art over here: http://euphonies.com that you might like... or you might not... or you might not even care. LOL
