You guys are the best, you really are. I got my first birthday present today, and it was from a reader! Thank you, 'The Thomas'! How incredibly sweet of you!
I was so surprised when I read the card.
Pride & Prejudice DVDs! Something I've really been wanting for a while now. Perfect! Especially as I'm reading the book for the first time. Great timing.

The normal usage here is to spend a weekend watching the mini-series end-to-end with appropriate munchies.
The quaker parrots had the theme song memorized before we wore out the video tapes from when it was on A&E.
You can't imagine the impact that P&P has had on my son from 3rd grade onward. He sees too many Lydias in High School right now and too few Janes and Elizabeths. That and the underclass girls calling him Harry Potter as he is a blond version of Daniel Radcliffe. Such is life.
Posted by: The Thomas at July 14, 2004 8:36 PMBirthday? Did I miss an announcement?
29, right? :-)
(Just nod your head.)
Posted by: Russ at July 14, 2004 9:18 PMOh, wait, I knew you had a B-day coming up. My mistake.
(But you can keep claiming to be 29. I'll believe you. Really I will.)
Posted by: Russ at July 14, 2004 9:22 PMHappy Birthday, Ith :)
Posted by: Rae at July 14, 2004 10:00 PMThanks in advance. Yes, my birthday is tomorrow.
Posted by: Ith at July 15, 2004 8:49 AMIt's so much easier to watch P&P on DVD...no rewinding necessary. :-)
Posted by: Princess Jami at July 15, 2004 2:29 PMHmmm...Colin Firth Mr. Darcy.
(I'm still kinda glowing from my Hugh Jackman weekend.)
Happy, happy, happy, Ith!
Posted by: jen at July 15, 2004 5:11 PMHappy Birthday, Ith:
P&P is one of my all-time favorite books - I re-read it every few years. Elizabeth Bennett was rather a role model for me, growing up. Hope you enjoy it.
I admit that watching Colin Firth got me a bit twitterpated... he reminds me of my husband a bit. I enjoyed the love story because my spousal unit and I detested each other on sight in high school. He thought I was stuck up, and I returned the sentiment in spades. We were both just amused introverts, feeling somewhat out-of-place in the preppy private school we had just transferred to from public school. :)
And have a wonderful birthday - you're a special lady and deserve all the best.
Posted by: Cassandra at July 16, 2004 5:22 AMThanks again, everyone. Cassandra, thank you.
I watchedthe first DVD last night, since I'd finished the book the night before, and enjoyed it muchly :)

Just don't turn it into a drinking game counting every time Mrs Bennet whoops or gets all flusterpated.
We much prefer to see the actress that plays Lydia in AbFab as Saffron 'Saffy' Monsoon.
