Here's Hoping I'm Wrong

The usual -- watching FNC just before work, and they had two former party heads (DNC & RNC) on commenting on a new article today on what we need to decide as a country before the election, should a terror attack happen. Now, I may have been too unawake to or something, but it sure seemed like the Dem guy was refusing to rule out using a terror attack before the election for political purposes. Every time the anchor pressed him on the point, he kept wriggling out of it. I guess I shouldn't be shocked, but I am. How hard would it have been to unequivocally state that they wouldn't use an attack to their political advantage right before the election?

Did anyone else see this segment? I'm hoping I got the nuances all wrong.
