Sour Grapes?

Not that this comes as a surprise, but... Chicks to break with country scene.

Violinist Martie Maguire told Spiegel magazine: "We don't feel part of the country scene any longer, it can't be our home any more."

She said she was disappointed other country singers didn't back up the Dixie Chicks in their criticism of George W Bush's politics on Iraq.

"A few weeks ago, Merle Haggard said a couple of nice words about us, but that was it," Maguire complained.

"The support we got came from others, like Bruce Springsteen."

Maybe because they're grownups, Martie? With this sort of whining, it appears you certainly aren't one yet. Suck it up, girls! If you take a stand, you need to do it because you think it's right, not because you want to be part of the "in" crowd, or because you think it's cool at the time. But that's the problem, you don't think. R E S P O N S I B I L I T Y -- look it up in the dictionary.

Going home empty-handed from the Country Awards ceremony also made them decide to break with the scene, Maguire said.

Mmmm-hmmmm..... I think that about covers it, don't you? The Dixie Chicks owe Country and its fans for their success. If they want to be just another pop band, then so be it. I guess mediocrity is easier than originality and creativity. Their last CD certainly proved that.

I am glad you blogged this. I wanted to but found something so infuriating about the story I could not bring myself to write about it. Not only to the Chicks believe it is censorship for people (like myself) to stop paying money for their music. Now the world is obliged to give them awards too. Maybe they could do the soundtrack to Michael Moore's next effort. That should win them an Oscar and they can then take their place in Hollywood the Just alongside Martin Sheen and Sean Penn.

I wasn't going to, but geeeez! I guess because I was a huge fan of theirs back in the beginning that I felt compelled to comment :) It was either pick on them or pick on Martin Sheen's latest. I picked the Chicks.

Hard to sing country or otherwise when your foot is in your mouth. It is OK to have your opinion, like the Chicks had, and it is OK to voice. That is what we all believe in. It is NOT ok to say that just because you are famous that you shouldn't be judged by the things you say. We are all judged by the things we say. All of us.

And we all sit down to poo too.

Get off your high horses, Chicks.
