Out Of Hand

Okay, the puppies were one thing, but hobos?? Should the death of Boxcar Willie be reinvestigated? Are there hobo CSI teams? Where will it all end?

(this would be where I tell everyone that Rachel likes Air Supply, but she already confessed, so back to the drawing board!)

Hey, I'm with Rachel. I always liked Air Supply when I feel like mellow, mushily romantic, soothing music. Which is relatively often.

Posted by: Jay Solo at April 27, 2003 2:27 PM

Oh, I like them too :) And ABBA!

Posted by: Ith at April 27, 2003 2:43 PM

Air Supply and ABBA? What's next, Culture Club?

Posted by: Geoffrey at April 27, 2003 5:36 PM

Nah, no Culture Club for me. Now The Eurythmics on the other hand....

Posted by: Ith at April 27, 2003 6:14 PM

Oh come ON!! Air Supply rocks. I even have their Christmas album!!

Posted by: Lawren at April 28, 2003 3:52 PM

you're a brave young woman to admit that!

Posted by: Ith at April 28, 2003 4:00 PM

Culture Club? Ick!

Posted by: Jay Solo at April 28, 2003 5:39 PM

No. Air. Supply. Ever.

Maybe a couple of Culture Club songs. But in general, I don't respond well to romantic, mushy music -- unless copious vomiting is considered a "good response."

Posted by: Andrea Harris at April 28, 2003 6:16 PM

So how do you really feel, Andrea? [g]

And no, it's probably not a good response -- unless you're at a Peace March that is!

Posted by: Ith at April 28, 2003 6:41 PM

ABBA?

[deep breath]

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: Ninjababe at April 28, 2003 8:17 PM

Yes! ABBA!!! Dancing Queen? Yes. Waterloo? Yes.

Culture Club? NO. I hate Culture Club. I've hated them since I was 10 and that crappy Karma Chameleon crap came out. Crap.

And Air Supply is all about the atmosphere, not the mushy words. It's about flowing melodies and sweet harmonies and total, complete MELLOWNESS. Yummmm.

Okay since it's confession time, and to preempt Ith from exposing this secret of mine, heh, I know announce to the world (notice this is on YOUR blog, not mine) that my most favorite band of all time (until I was 17, of course) was....

Wham!

Posted by: Rachel at April 28, 2003 10:15 PM

ABBA fans unite! Give me, give me, give me a man after midnight...la la la la la.

I liked Wham too. My mum thought "Wake Me Up Before You Go Go" was "Wake Me Up Before You Choke Me". no idea...

I think I was the only person in the world that didn't know George Michael was gay. I was teased unmercifully about that at work [g]

(Oh, and Rachel, your secret is safe with us! Honest)

Posted by: Ith at April 28, 2003 11:00 PM

You weren't the only one, Ith! Ohmygod!!! I didn't even know about the RUMORS George was gay until I was about 16, and then I didn't believe them. I thought everyone was just jealous because he was soooo HOT! Hahahaha.

I didn't truly believe he was gay until that bathroom arrest in LA. I usually have very sharp gaydar, but it failed me with George because I loved him so much and wanted to bear his children.

And now, of course, I hate him because of his stupid anti-Bush, anti-America bullshit. He said something last year about being "afraid" in America because every place outside L.A. is full of ignorant yokels.

But man, I loved Wham! Especially the first record, the one with Wham! Rap and Club Tropicana. God, I'm a dork.

Posted by: Rachel at April 29, 2003 8:44 AM

I didn't even know that much! It wasn't till his arrest that I found out. And seeing as I have nearly ten years in you, that makes me the mostest of the mostest when it comes to being naive [g]

I even liked his first solo stuff.

Dorks Y Us!

I always loved ABBA too. Never had any special interest in Wham! either way. Wake Me Up... was catchy enough, but maybe being a fan was a relative age thing.

How about the Carpenters? They were huge when I was a kid, and I was very upset when Karen died. What a voice. (Good thing I've made no secret of my age, or I'd be giving it away now!)

Posted by: Jay Solo at April 29, 2003 9:48 AM

Jay, I'm 39 so I remember the Carpenter's music, but my parents didn't really listen to them, so my familiarity was mostly from the radio. I do remember Karen dying and hearing about anorexia for pretty much the first time.

Posted by: Ith at April 29, 2003 10:54 AM

MAJOR TOM!!! Oh I just heard Bowie's original the other day...but Peter Shilling's extension of that was fabulous.

I am a child of the 80s too!! My favs were Men At Work, Big Country, Eurythmics, Cyndi Lauper...

yes, yes...I know...all the bubble gum stuff...funny thing is groups like ABBA have special memories for me...there are a lot of 70s groups/songs that evoke childhood.

Have to confess, Air Supply was barely tolerable for my ears, but infinitely better than Peter Cetera and/or Chicago. UGH!

Posted by: Sharon Ferguson at April 29, 2003 7:29 PM

I think alot of the songs I liked in the 80s were one hit wonders. Never got the cassettes of any of them (poor as a church mouse back then), but love hearing them on the radio to this day.
