It's The Waiting

Earlier today, I wrote this post on the feeling of frustration and worry I have. I should be in bed now, but here I am blogging up a storm, unable to settle down enough to sleep. One more blog to read, one more post to make. That one to go read is Steven Den Beste writes on "It's the waiting that wears".

It fits my mood today, and really fits my mood staring at the monitor in the dark when I should be asleep.

I'm going to go and at least try to reast. If you're staying up, go and read Steven's post.

The waiting is frustrating but neccessary. Last I heard, the birds belonging to the 101st Airborne Div are still on the boats. Can't have our Airborne troops walking to work, you know. Also, without the gunships the 101st is durned near naked against tanks.
We've forgotton how much the Clinton Administration drew down our forces, we have HALF the ships as we did under Reagan. We're short on heavy lift aircraft transport.
All this screwing around with the worthless UN is merely the Matrador's cape, concealing the fact that there is a sword, it's not quite ready.
My war, '65 to '70, was run on a shoestring. Even at the peak of it, we had the most important forces over in Europe, deterringthe rompin' stompin' red-assed bear from coming west. This war is running on a shoestring because that's all we have.
Soon.

Here's hoping you're right! And you're absolutely spot on in regards to the military being gutted during the Clinton years.
